It's not what you think! This page is dedicated to all those who have tried to cook for me and I could not eat it because I was allergic to something in it. Please note that these allergies should be used as a reference and not as a means to find out what can kill me...although, I'm pretty much setting myself up by doing this. Oh well.
KEY:
Allergen | What causes it? | Symptoms | Treatment |
Lactose | Lactose (found in milk products) can only be digested by a natural enzyme called lactase. | Cramps, bloating, gas, and diarrhea beginning about 30 minutes after consumption. | medication: Lactaid (R) |
caffeine | This is still under research. A very small percentage of the population has this allergy. Labeled as deadly because there is no known treatment. | massive migrains in even the smallest amounts; cold sweats, dizziness, disorientation, rash, hives | none |
corn | The density of the corn itself makes it hard to digest; not effected by popped corn or corn by-products | cramps, diarrhea | none |
Allergen | What causes it? | Symptoms | Treatment |
seasonal pollen | inflamation of the mucous membrains in the nasal cavity | stuffy and runny nose, sinus pressure around eyes and nose, dizziness | Flonase (R) |
cats | the fur from the cat is shaped such a way that they enter the sinus cavities and cause them to inflame. The inflamation is actually caused by the saliva of the cat. | irritation in the eyes, stuffy nose, trouble breathing | Flonase (R) |
chlorine | the molecular shape of chlorine has the same effect of pollen that when inhaled, it will cause mucous membrains to inflame. | runny and stuffy nose, irritation in the eyes | none |
carbon-monoxide (smoke form) | the molecular shape of carbon-monoxide causes inflamation of throat membrains, causing them to swell. Usually takes at least 20 minutes of exposure to show any symptoms. The smoke form of carbon-monoxide is found in second-hand smoke, as well as car exhaust and other things that may burn fossil fuels. | trouble breathing, hacking cough | oxygen |
