privacy policy for twentyfifteen.tripod.com

Wow...someone's bored.

This is probably the second most boring part of my site, the first being my disclaimer. This page holds all of the procedures about information that is collected from you. As a privacy advocate, I understand that you value your privacy. So, I've modelled my Privacy Policy by the standards of the industry as well as the guidelines set by truste.org. Please note: This site is NOT registered with truste.org.

You may find it valuable to visit lycos' privacy policy. This site is hosted by Tripod, Inc. which is part of the TerraLycos network.

I have gone to great lengths to protect your information as well as make this site as interactive as possible. Very little information is collected from you but I will disclose what is done with the information that is gathered. Confused? Don't worry! Here are the questions that will be answered:

  1. What information is collected?
  2. How is this information collected?
  3. What are cookies and are they used here?
  4. How do you used this information?
  5. Do you share this information with other companies or individuals?
  6. How can I access or edit my information?
  7. What is the opt-out policy?
  8. What kind of security procedures are in place against the loss, misuse, or alteration of my information?
  9. Do you comply with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA)?
  10. What can I do to better protect myself?

1. What information is collected?

In short, almost none! Very few parts of this site actually take in user input. The only parts that do are the "Address Book" form and the "Picture Comment" form.

2. How is this information collected?

This information is collected when you click the "submit" button. There are no images that take in information (ie. hitbox).

3. What are cookies and are they used here?

A cookie is a small file that resides on your computer, that holds special information which may include the pages you have visited. Although some sites require the use of cookies to function, I have designed this site to be cookie free. No cookies, no crumbs.

4. How do you use this information?

When it comes down to my address book, it simply gets parsed, mangled, and then e-mailed to me. I then add your information to my address book. The source code to my adddress book program will be available soon. What you should note is that upon submission of the form, all of the information you entered is logged and stored on my web site. At the current moment, the information is NOT encrypted.

5. Do you share this information with other companies or individuals?

Short answer: no.

Long answer: depends. I will never, under any circumstances, sell or give away your e-mail addresses to companies. However, if we have friends in common, and she requests your e-mail address, upon evaluating her intensions, will disclose it. You may, at your option, inform me not to do this and I will honor it.

6. How can I access or edit my information?

Because of security reasons, you will not be able to edit information you have submitted to me. If you need to update them, please e-mail me and let me know.

7. What is the opt-out policy?

You always have the option to not fill out forms. However, in doing so, I reserve the right to refuse access to parts of my site that may require registration.

What kind of security procedures are in place against the loss, misuse, or alteration of my information?

Very few. The few security procedures in place to protect your information are: one-way hash for your passwords. This means that it is nearly impossible to decrypt your password. The only logistical way to crack it is if you take a word, apply the salt, and see if they match. However, Tripod's perl seems to use a different encryption algorhythm which produces a different crypt than on other computers. This as worked out to my advange because the only way to produce the same crypt would be to have an account on Tripod and then chew threw a list of possible passwords.

9. Do you comply with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA)?

No. This only applies to children under 13. Frankly, children under 13 will not be asked to fill out any of my forms.

10. What can I do to better protect myself?

Educate yourself. The Internet is full of information; it doesn't all have to be about you! Understanding and getting familar with a site's privacy policy will inform you of what happens with your information. Understanding and knowing is half the battle. Once you know, you are empowered to question companies you feel are not following their own policies.
